The Kony Video Generated Controversy

Joseph Kony, leader LRA

The KONY 2012 video has generated significant controversy. Misinterpretations of social media content may lead some people believing the LRA is now active again in Uganda. Read more: On How  Uganda Government responded.

It must be clarified at present the LRA is not active in Uganda. Practically expelled by the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), the LRA has retreated to dense terrain in the Central African forests. They are weakened group with a number not exceeding 300 men. The threat posed by them is considerably reduced and we are hopeful it will be altogether eliminated with the help of US support.

The people in the north of Uganda are on a path of rebuilding, conciliation, reintegration, and prospering communities.  To aid this prosperity the Government implemented a 10 Year Peace, Recovery and Development Plan for Northern Uganda. Over a million people were displaced in northern Uganda during the fighting, and countless children were abducted. Currently, there are foreign NGOs and local Ugandans working on stabilizing the local economy, which was devastated.

But The LRA is not only bad for Ugandans, also they took lives of women and children in Onura sub village of south Sudan. HO is partnering with two local community based organizations to launch these activities hubs: Onura women Beekeeping OrganizationOnura Maternal Survival Project. These groups are working very hard, with limited resources, to bring economic opportunities to south Sudan as it recovers from the impact of the twenty one years of fighting. They are on the ground running small outreach initiatives on a daily basis. They provide services and support activities for disadvantaged children in the village. HO believes working at this grass-root level is the best ways we can help the women of Onura rebuild their lives.
