The OMILLING is a war ravaged rural society, from longest civil war in African history. Since the signing of peace children are returning home as orphans hoping to receive an education but there are no schools. Majority of people are illiterate, and 1768 children are staying home due to lack of classrooms and no school has been built in Omilling community since Independence in 1956. Presently, 316 children are attending the Mairo primary school on the temporary structures.

This pig loan project will increase school enrollment rate in Omilling sub – Village. Most women are unable to afford study materials for their children so they force them to drop out of school. If the family has a certain income annually they would be able to send their children to school. Children who get education will help the development of the whole village. Each pig costs $35 and every family that receives a pig will be able to earn an additional $250 (£500 Sudanese pounds per year by selling piglets). One mature female pig can give birth to at least 5-8 piglets per year. Therefore this added income will alleviate many problems simultaneously. For example, sales of cheap labor in the construction sites, teenagers work force and early marriage for girls. Meanwhile it can ease family basic needs such as tea leaf, salt, sugar, soap bar, and pay for study materials for their children which will have a major contribution to poverty alleviation. Two pigs from the first litter will be given to additional families making this project grow over time.

These children are not in schools due to poverty.

Poverty is common among Sudanese refugee families in Uganda. Many children become orphans due to WAR and disease. By sponsoring a poor boy or girl, you will give the child care and education. Sponsoring a child ensures that he or she will get food, clothes, and medicines. Sponsorship also includes school fees and books. We believe that the only cure for poverty is education, which is why we put school first. This project sponsors 150 girls, and 150 boys between the age of 6 and 18.

Ongoing droughts have left the village’s 1560 people with a seriously limited water supply. Treat this as an emergency and ACT immediately.

This project will address the serious need for reliable water sources in ONURA sub village. It will fund the installation of two hand pumps; each water pump will provide 240 households with access to a new, stable well. The wells will be constructed 5 km away from each other so that their water can be used by 1560 villagers.

The project aims to alleviate the village women’s workload and to improve their living condition.

Once maize has been harvested it has to be threshed to remove the maize from their stalks, and then grind to make maize flour. Women do all of this work by hand. Hand-threshing and –hand-grinding can take several months. Traditionally, in Omilling communities threshing and grinding are considered tasks for women. Grinding machine will reverse this practice.

Bleeding can be controlled in a clinic, but in ONURA sub village this is a dead sentence to mothers because there is no healthcare post.

Our aim is to provide traditional midwives a childbirth delivery bed to save lives in a local post where most births take place. This is also where most maternal deaths occur in ONURA sub village –well beyond the reach of hospitals and government health services.

Please invest in women’s lives by donating only $10 with tax return to you as a donor through GlobalGiving (click – here)

We have 300 children in slums on outskirt of Kampala city on waiting list. They want to be at school but due to poverty they are staying home without education. In Uganda, it cost money to go to school.

Please invest in children’s education by donating what you can with tax return to you as donor through GlobalGiving (click – here)

ONURA sub village has one of the southern Sudan’s worst low rates of education at 99% – the statistic only include girls, and women, which means the illiteracy in the village is probably closer to 100%.

There are other serious problems in the village as well: alcoholism, malnutrition, and domestic abuse. A discussion of these issues would only lead to “the chicken or the egg” argument, but no one doubts that these problems fuel each other on a daily basis. The school I want to build will have 2 classrooms, and a toilet block. The classrooms will be basic but sufficient to ensure a proper learning environment: windows, a door, a long chalkboard, and wall space for the work. The Government of southern Sudan’s Ministry of education has agreed to pay the salaries for teachers and supply learning materials ongoing basis provided that HOPE Ofiriha sets up the structures.

It is because of these issues that I see education to be such an important factor in their lives. Anything I can do to give these children a better opportunity to learn, I will do, because giving them an education is like giving them the wings that could help them rise above the astoundingly difficult conditions in which they were born. If they can use their education to make intelligent, cautious decisions about their lives, not only can they save themselves, but they can also save others by informing them about the dangers that plague their villages.

The great football tournament in the world is kicking off today at 4 pm with host country opening against Mexico. We can’t wait. I only wish my team (England) was on slightly better form, but I’m still hopeful! There is also something we can do to create a lasting legacy that could see millions more kids receive an education.

South Africa President Jacob Zuma has just announced that he will hold a global leadership summit during the world Cup. The aim? Push leaders, football fans to give children a chance to go to school. Something not hard to support. So HopeOfiriha is teaming up with 1Goal, bringing together footballers and fans to give children the extra kick needed to go to school.

As the world turns its attention to Africa for the first time football World Cup held on its continent, let’s enjoy the game and help every child get a basic education.

We need a hand press-soil block machine which presses interlocking blocks from a mixture of soil, sand, and cement. These blocks can be stacked onto each other and no mortar is needed, which will keep costs down. A concrete ring beam is constructed which holds the blocks together. We will use this for schools, and healthcare posts building projects.
