This project buys a soil block maker machine which the OMILLING communities – Sudan will be using in making soil blocks locally.

We need a hand press-soil block machine which presses interlocking blocks from a mixture of soil, sand, and cement. These blocks can be stacked onto each other and no mortar is needed, which will keep costs down. A concrete ring beam is constructed which holds the blocks together. We will use this for schools, and healthcare posts building projects.

HIV-AIDS is a huge problem in rural communities of OMILLING communities – Magwi County Sudan. We want to introduce a hard – hitting awareness campaign. This initiative will particularly focus along Onura, Ihoo, and Ibbo villages. These communities were badly affected during the presence of LRA. It is common for young girls to have sex with local men in return for false love without protection. LRA imported these bad habits in the communities in northern part of Magwi County.

This project buys medicines from Torit and Juba Pharmacies and is sold to patients locally by trained nurse, and funds are needed to expand the programme and training. The OMILLING communities have no sources of medical supplies, and patients go without treatment. We need medicines to be given to patients at not-for-a-profit-price, and the money is re-invested in more medicines for the following month. In rural OMILLING communities, this is the only way for pregnant women and malaria patients, especially children to get cure.

The project provides two Microscopes for malaria testing needed at local healthcare post located in ONURA sub village – Magwi County Sudan.

We urgently need two microscopes so that patients can be tested for malaria. At the moment, there are no testing facilities available, and malaria treatments are given out to patients who show symptoms of malaria even though they may be suffering from some other diseases. Having the microscopes will enable patients to be treated with right medicines.

Loheru health post is locally run and it id 35km away from Magwi healthcare centre. The health post is serving the population of 60,000 people at Lofiriha community. It caters for over 15,000 patients per year. Currently there is one Para-medic trained Assistant but no permanent employed trained nurses – and midwives.

The health post is run through charity donation and is providing general medical services and a unit for children under five years old. The majority of patients are seeking treatment for malaria and acute watery diarrhea, fistula, followed by pneumonia and other respiratory infections.

The post lacks stock of the essential drugs required for running, and also it provides immunization services for polio, measles, whooping cough, tetanus, and diphtheria. In combination with its services, the post provides health education, either individually or in groups. 

There is no HIV – AIDS testing and counseling unit and the facility is lacking the funding needed for operations. Although medical services are free there are severe shortages of dressing and basic medical appliances.

This project sets up nurseries to plant over 1 million trees in 2010. The nurseries will be managed by local Omilling community – Sudan.

The OMILLING Sudan is a poor community and 99% of the people live in rural areas. Wood is a part of life, and also there is pressure to clear forests for agriculture. The current way of life is not sustainable. Wood is always treated as a free resource, and vast areas of woodland have been cleared carelessly without replanting for future generations. This deforestation also leads to soil erosion, land degradation and ultimately climate change which is and will have a devastating effect.

The project will be setting up 10 small groups of women in ONURA sub village Sudan to make fuel efficient wood burning clay. These stoves use about 95% less wood than traditional cooking ways.

In ONURA –sub village 100% of the population depends on firewood for cooking. The family of 8 people would burn 800 small trees per year. This is useless way of using the energy. The clay stove has many advantages. First, they use one third of fire wood reducing annual usage of a family to 200 trees per year. Secondly, they produce less smoke which has a major health benefit. Thirdly, they cook quicker, and finally are portable. This project has a huge benefit for the environment.

This project sets up 50 local women beekeeping organizations to provide food and income in ONURA Sub village– Sudan. Each organization will have 50 local members.

Apiculture is a powerful way of tackling poverty at grassroots level. HOPE OFIRIHA in partnership with ONURA women beekeeping organization (OWBO) will establish 500 beehives as a platform for training and adoption of beekeeping practice in Omilling Sudan. Forest doesn’t offer communities much, when they see an area of trees, rather than keeping it they cut down and grow cassava. Bee-keeping can hopefully change this. The project will provide loans to 100 women.

My village needs two classrooms but the community cannot afford it. I am raising money for the construction costs.

The school I want to build will have a classroom, and a toilet block. The classroom will be sufficient for learning; windows, a door, a long blackboard, and wall space for work. The Ministry of education has agreed to pay the teachers’ salaries and supply learning materials ongoing basis once the school has been built.
